There are two different ways of making a document editable.
Firstly you can create variables and apply these to the document.
Secondly you can use inline editing where the end user clicks into a text frame on the template and edits the text on the document itself. This method is required for templates with large amounts of text edits, templates over 2 pages in length and templates where numerous styles are used.
For both methods you need to lock the document before you do anything else. This will ensure that the end user cannot move, delete or add anything to the document. It will also lock the content so that the end user cannot change anything.
Step 1: Lock the document
Open the Document Tab > Document Constraints
Set the 'Frame Constraints' to ‘Lock for end users’
Set the 'Frame Content Constraints' to 'Limited selection for end-users'
