Updates with Chili 6.2

Reference points

Template builders now have the ability to assign a reference point for each frame using a 9-point grid, the specified reference point is used when automatic transformations are applied to a given frame, providing more accurate control over the position of each frame without using complex actions.

Please Note: Changing the reference point will not have any impact on the auto-grow direction of the text frame or the rotation point of any frame.

Frame rotation

The rotation behaviour of all frame types has been modified to improve the user's experience. Frames now rotate around the centre, providing a more expected behaviour and making it easier to position frames quickly. Rotation around the centre occurs both when directly manipulated by the user or when triggered by an action.

Copyfitting using leading and tracking

Copyfitting has new functionality giving more control over how dynamic content is fitted into text frames. When template builders enable Apply Copyfitting, two new options are now available: Enable Leadingand Enable Tracking. By specifying minimum values for either option, the template builder can control how close lines or characters can get when fitting content within a text frame.

Please note: When specifying copyfitting parameters, if the minimum values set for leading and tracking are greater than the values set in the text frame itself, copyfitting based on either will be ignored.

Character Style for Prefix/Suffix

It is now possible to apply a character style to a Prefix or Suffix – this will enable clients to apply a different colour/font/size to the prefix which had previously not been possible.

Simply choose from a drop down of Character Styles in the prefix/suffix General Tab of the Variable

GS1 DataBar Expanded and Expanded Stacked

Two new barcode types have been added:

  • GS1 DataBar Expanded:
  • GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked

Path editor

Template designers can now create custom shapes using the built-in path editor. Shapes can have colours applied to the outline, fill or both, or be used as a mask for images. Additionally Brandworkz can save these custom shapes to the shapes library for use in other templates.

Vertical text alignment in shapes

A new option allows text to be vertically aligned or justified in any text frame. The four available options for vertical alignment are Top, Centre, Bottom, and Justify.

If the text frame uses multiple columns, the alignment will only be applied to the last column. All the other columns will utilize all available vertical space.

Non-breaking text

Using non-breaking text, strings of text can be configured to not wrap across multiple lines. This gives template builders precise control when formatting text in critical areas, such as address panels, packaging, labels, a call to action, and more.

Multiple assets upload (BackOffice)

It is no longer necessary to create a zip file to upload multiple assets if they are uploaded directly to the W2P admin UI. From the file browser pop-up window, multiple assets can now be selected and uploaded together.

Invisible borders for page

With some integrations, it might be desirable to show document pages without any guides. Previously, most guides could be hidden, however, the page border guide was always visible. Now, the page border can be hidden as well for a seamless canvas. This option can be set in the Guides section of the View Preferences.

Improved action editor

The Action Editor is a powerful and flexible tool to write the logic that controls template behaviour. Building on its extensive list of capabilities, two new features have been added to extend its functionality:

  • date comparisons
  • extended IF statements.

Template builders can now write logic to compare two Date type variables in the action editor. Both local and global variables can be used for comparisons.
A Date variable can also be compared to a string in the following format YYYY/MM/DD.

With extended conditional statements, template logic can be more precise and more selective. The logical operators 'AND' and 'OR' have been added allowing multiple conditions to be evaluated in one block.

Cropping assets inline

'Allow inline image positioning' option in the view preferences of the document editor. When this functionality is enabled a hand-icon appears in the centre of the image frame when a user hovers over the frame. By clicking and dragging this icon, or by using the mouse wheel, a user could manipulate the image crop while keeping the size and position of frame as is.

Inline-Image-Cropping (2)

To set this up for end users to be able move the image around within the frame inline – without the need for a variable – you need to set the image crop to Manual and the Frame > Frame Content Constraints > Lock Content to  NO

Moving/Resizing asset inline

A new inline crop mode has been introduced, which does the opposite. When activated, the frame handles can be used to manipulate the frame size and/or location but keeping the image in place.

Set the frame up as before however now add the ability for the end user to alter the image size or position by setting the Frame > Frame Content Constraints > Lock Move Hor / Lock Move Vert / Lock Resize Hor / Lock Resize Vert - NO

Depending on your use case, or the skill level of the end user, one or both options can be enabled to allow inline image cropping.

Hide scrollbars

We have observed that in specific cases, it makes sense to hide the front-end editor scrollbars. It is now possible via a view preference setting.

It can be triggered in ViewPreferences -> Guides:
